What to do if your charger stops working

Many users experience a charging problem with their phone. If your charger seems to have stopped working, there are several simple checks you can carry out to identify the cause of the issue.

Start by switching the device off

Before doing anything else, it’s recommended to switch the phone off completely, as this allows you to work safely while diagnosing the fault.

A damaged charger is often to blame

In many cases, the charger itself is faulty. Look for:

  • Any exposed wires,
  • Any cracked or flaking sections,
  • Any damaged internal shielding.

If you notice any of these, try using another compatible charger to see if charging resumes.

The battery may be completely flat

It’s also possible that the phone battery is totally flat. If the device doesn’t respond at all, you may need to replace the battery if a full recharge doesn’t bring it back to life.

Diagnose the most common faults

Issue with the wall socket

The power source itself can be the problem:

  • Remove any intermediate adapters,
  • Try a different wall socket or extension lead,
  • Check that the socket is actually working properly.

Dirty or corroded USB port

A clogged port stops the connector making proper contact:

  • Use a very fine needle to remove any debris,
  • Clean gently without forcing it,
  • This often improves the charging connection.

Faulty cable or adapter

A damaged cable can also stop your phone from charging:

  • Visually inspect the cable and adapter,
  • Try a different set,
  • Only use accessories that are in good condition.

Replace it if nothing else works

If, despite all these checks, the charger still doesn’t work, it’s time to invest in new equipment. You can choose from our range of compatible chargers at BatteryLaptop / www.batterylaptop.co.uk, or replace the battery with a reliable product.
