Losing your smartphone or having it stolen is extremely stressful these days. This small device holds photos, work documents, passwords, bank accounts and much more. Fortunately, there are several ways to <\/span>find a stolen phone<\/b>, provided you prepare in advance. Here\u2019s what to do, whether you\u2019re on Android or iOS.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Android users<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Before anything happens, install the <\/span>Find My Device<\/b> app from the Play Store. Sign in with your Google account and enable the necessary permissions: location, data wipe, lock.<\/span><\/p>\n

If your phone goes missing, sign in to <\/span>Google > Find My Device<\/b>. Select your phone. You can then:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Locate it in real time<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Make it ring so you can find it nearby<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Lock it remotely<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Erase all your data if necessary<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    For iPhone users<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Apple natively includes the <\/span>Find My iPhone<\/b> feature. In <\/span>Settings > iCloud<\/b>, switch this option on as well as \u201cSend Last Location\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

    If your phone disappears, go to <\/span>icloud.com\/find<\/b>. You\u2019ll be able to locate it on a map, play a sound, activate Lost Mode or erase the data remotely.<\/span><\/p>\n

    More advanced tracking apps<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Tools like <\/span>Cerberus<\/b> give you even more control: taking photos remotely, recording audio, taking screenshots, viewing call logs and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The <\/span>Lookout<\/b> app takes photos if the password is entered incorrectly several times and can trigger an alarm.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Be aware: these services only work if the phone is <\/span>switched on<\/b> and <\/span>connected<\/b> to a network. If it\u2019s turned off or has no SIM, location will not work.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Privacy: a personal choice<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Keeping location services on all the time gives Google or Apple access to your whereabouts. This can be a concern for some privacy-conscious users. It\u2019s up to you to decide between confidentiality and security. But one thing is certain: <\/span>you need to enable these services before anything goes missing<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n
