DJI Neo: a lightweight, easy drone for aerial imaging

Released in 2024, the DJI Neo is an ultra-compact drone designed for the general public. Weighing just 135 g and with its small footprint (15.7 x 13 x 4.9 cm), it’s easy to carry and aimed at users who want to enjoy aerial shots without spending a long time learning how to fly. Priced at 199 € in its standard version, it offers advanced options such as six automatic modes dedicated to RAW image capture.

An inspired and practical design

The Neo takes its styling cues from the Avata 2, combining carbon fibre and protective propeller guards with grills for safety and durability. Its camera features single-axis mechanical stabilisation, enhanced by RockSteady and HorizonBalancing to reduce vibrations and ensure smooth video. In low light, however, images can show noticeable noise and pixelation. Video can be recorded in 4K at 30 fps or 1080p at 60 fps, perfectly suited to leisure use.

Easy flying and automatic modes

The Neo is all about simplicity: its automatic assisted flight gives one-tap access to modes such as Dronie, Circle or Rocket, ideal for creating original clips without advanced skills. Control is via the DJI Fly app on your smartphone with a clear interface, or with a remote controller for extra comfort.

Real-world battery life and in-flight experience

Although the manufacturer claims 17 minutes of battery life, in practice, with moderate wind, the duration often drops to under 10 minutes. To extend your flying time, the Fly More bundle with three additional batteries is recommended. Lightweight and highly manoeuvrable, the Neo remains sensitive to strong winds, which can affect its stability.

Conclusion

Ideal for beginners or occasional creators, the DJI Neo combines an attractive price with ease of use. Its compact size and automated modes are appealing, but planning for spare batteries is a wise choice if you want to make the most of its capabilities.
