Apple prepares the iPad Pro M6: M6 chip and 5G modem expected by 2027

Even though the iPad Pro with the M5 chip has not yet been unveiled, Apple is already working on the next generation. Specialist sources report that the company has begun early work on the M6 chip, expected to power the iPad Pro planned for 2027 as well as a redesigned MacBook Pro due in 2026.

An ambitious technical strategy for the iPad Pro

The iPad Pro M6 is set to combine a new in-house chip and a 5G modem developed by Apple. The latter, known under the code name C2, is not expected to appear before the iPhone 18, which aligns with a launch forecast for 2027. The delay to this project gives Apple time to refine its advances before rolling them out.

A release cycle consistent with Cupertino’s habits

Unlike the iPhone, the iPad Pro is not refreshed every year but roughly every 18 months. The new generation is expected to be available in May 2024, while the MacBook Pro M5 is due towards the end of the year. If this timetable holds, the iPad Pro M6 should arrive in early 2027 and mark the first simultaneous integration of the M6 chip and the C2 modem.

Modest updates for the iPad and MacBook Air

Apple is also said to be planning an entry-level iPad 12 and an updated MacBook Air. Since these products were refreshed in March 2024, they are unlikely to be renewed before 2025. The iPad 12 would mainly be a technical refresh – probably with a new A-series chip – without major new features, in keeping with the brand’s usual strategy for its more affordable models.

Useful tip: extend the lifespan of your devices

To get the most out of your tablet over time, it’s a good idea to replace an ageing battery with a quality model. Choosing a reliable, high-performance battery is a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative that helps extend the everyday use of your devices.
