Have you recently swapped your iPhone for an Android smartphone? Not sure how to move your data across? No need to worry. With this guide, you’ll be able to efficiently copy your files, contacts, photos and emails from an iPhone to an Android phone.
First step: back up all your iPhone data
Before you start any transfer, it’s important to make a full backup of your iPhone. You can do this by connecting it to a computer with a cable: the iTunes software will then automatically back up your files. You can also use iCloud backup by turning it on in your settings. Ideally, you should choose a manual backup before any migration to keep all your data safe.
Move your main information to your Android
Once you have your new Android device, you can transfer the key content. To do this, a Google account is essential. On your iPhone, go to Settings → Mail, Contacts, Calendars → Accounts. Add your Google account, then turn on synchronisation.
Next, on your Android phone, go to Settings → Accounts and synchronisation → Add a Google account. Tick the items you want to sync, such as calendar, contacts and emails. This data will be automatically retrieved on your Android device once synchronisation is complete.
Retrieve your iPhone photos and videos
Start by connecting your iPhone to your PC. Click on the device in My Computer and choose Import pictures and videos. Select the backup folder.
Then connect your Android phone. Open the DCIM folder via File Explorer. Copy the photos you imported earlier and paste them into this folder to complete the transfer.
With this simple method, you can transfer your most important data. However, apps cannot be transferred automatically. You will need to download them manually from the Play Store on your new Android phone.
