Extension of the HP recall programme
HP has decided to extend its global voluntary recall programme covering certain laptop and mobile workstation batteries. This programme, initially launched in 2018, is being continued because of the risk of overheating, which may lead to spontaneous combustion. This preventive measure applies only to original batteries that have not yet been replaced under this programme.

How do you know if your battery is affected?
HP has made a downloadable diagnostic tool available on its official website. This utility automatically scans your battery and determines whether it presents a risk or not.
If your battery is faulty: what to do
If your battery is assessed as being at risk:
Step 1: Activate Battery Safety Mode
A BIOS update will allow you to switch the battery to Safety Mode, preventing it from being recharged. Your device will still work normally on mains power.
Step 2: Free replacement by a technician
HP offers a free replacement service, carried out by an authorised technician. This is necessary because most of the batteries are built into the system and are not easily replaceable by the user.
What about batteries ordered elsewhere?
If you bought a replacement battery through certain professional resellers, there is no cause for concern: these suppliers source their products directly from the brand and only sell batteries that are not affected by the recall.
